Teaching for Change provides teachers and parents with the tools to transform schools into centers of justice where students learn to read, write and change the world.
This mission is accomplished through publications, parent organizing and professional development.
Publications ~ Our catalog compiles the best social justice resources for early childhood through college.
~ Our own widely acclaimed publications, Beyond Heroes and Holidays, Putting the Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching, and the Caribbean Connections series fill a void in traditional curricula.
~ Our bookstores, Busboys and Poets-DC and Busboys and Poets-VA, independent sources for progressive books and resources, are located in the Busboys and Poets restaurant and coffee house in Washington, D.C. and Arlington, VA. For more information, please visit www.busboysandpoets.com.
Parent Power With a unique approach to multiracial grassroots organizing, our Tellin’ Stories Project uses the power of story to connect parents, schools and communities as purposeful partners for strong schools.
Professional Development ~ Our Early Childhood Equity Initiative provides leadership development on culturally responsive learning programs for young children.
~ Our workshops and courses on Teaching for Change publications include a focused effort with Putting the Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching in Mississippi.
